Is It Possible to Be Addicted to Endorphins?

Question by Gots me gun: Is it possible to be addicted to endorphins?
I always feel really really good after working out and my sister said it’s because of endorphins are being released and are like a bodily drug or somethin.
So could you get addicted to them? I know weird question.

I don’t think you can be addicted to your own body chemicals. Endorphins are released as a natural pain killer when your body is being pushed to its limits or as a reward stimulation of doing something pleasurable. It’s a lot different than, say, prescription narcotics which do not occur naturally in the body and have physiologically addictive qualities. If anything, you could better relate an “addiction” to endorphins as a behavioral addiction seeing as how in order to release the chemicals from within, you have to do something (ie working out, eating, sex, etc.)
