Will Staying in Jail Help “clear” His Mind?
Question by Manda Panda: Will staying in jail help “clear” his mind?
My uncle just went back to jail for a failure to appear right after he got out of jail ( about a month or two)…he was a drug addict addicted to crack and marijuana, 6 months in jail and hees been sober for the 2 months, however will him being back in jail for another six months help “clear” his brain, well start clearing the damage that has been done? I’m not quite sure how long he has been doing crack but he’s definately been smoking marijuana for more than 20 years….help
he’s been going to NA meetings and was not doing any drugs the time he was out of jail

The time he spends in jail will do nothing to clear his mind. He’s a drug addict and will keep relapsing until he decides he’s had enough. Then he will have to disassociate himself from any all people that he used to do drugs with and the environment where they are present or he will never get clean. I’ve been clean for fourteen years and still think about getting high most everyday.

Many inmates find “clarity” and meaning in their lives while in custody, but quickly forget and submit to temptation once outside the confines of jail. This is especially true of drug addiction. It is generally something a person must fight their entire lives.
If you are inquiring whether your family member suffers from organic brain damage due to excessive drug abuse, it is possible, but that determination must be made by an MD or neurologist.
If you mean he isn’t under the influence while in custody, the answer is generally yes. But drugs are often available in custody, illegally of course.
