Which College Courses Do I Have to Take to Become a Clinical Consultant for Substance Abuse Treatment?

Question by Crissy1986: Which college courses do I have to take to become a clinical consultant for substance abuse treatment?
It might seem stupid but I am looking for a career in this field.
I don’t know if I have to take psychology, nursing or other.
I would like to get involved in substance abuse treatments, detoxification, Methadone Detoxification.

This doesn’t seem stupid at all given humans will always have substance problems…..you will always have a job, and all the better if you have a passion for this type of work.

A four-year nursing degree is very versatile and will give you more work options. I would choose nursing, unless you exclusively want to be a clinical psychologist in which case you need a PhD in psychology or masters in social work.

Best wishes.

ps. You will have to take off the clown stuff when you do your practicums!
