I Need to Change…has Anyone Been in My Situation and How Did You Change?

Question by Allanah…: i need to change…has anyone been in my situation and how did you change?
Ok, im 16 female and have recently had a wake up call, i need to change my ways. Has anyone been in this kind of situation and how the hell did you manage it?

Basically, i have a 15month old daughter, Charlotte Erin and no longer have a relationship with her dad. I love her with all my heart and DO take responsibility for her. But that it pretty much al i take responsibility for. I have a horse, which my mom n dad pay for. I don’t do an awful lot around the house to help. I can be really stroppy and have a very short temper. I am enrolled at college but i hardly go anymore. I want to continue a good education but everything else seems to come first. I feel really bad for my parents and know i need to change. I go out all night, drink and smoke BUT DONT DO DRUGS, but i feel like this is time i need to unwind as i have Charley with me all the rest of the time.
I just need, im not sure, maybe some pointers on where to start!

Also, i do have other issues which is why i find it so hard to change.
ie, eating disorders, self harm, court case from sexual abuse/grooming. I am recieving help for these but i just dont feel like i should be looking after Charley but i really dont want her to be taken away.
What can i do???

crabman – i go to regular councilling which i do focus on but its been going on for so long…it gets tiring!! And the abuse/grooming was not within the family. I love Charlotte very much and the last comment you made…made me think…i agree…thank you =)

Sounds like you know what you need to do but you lack the commitment to do so. Its like a fat person who wants to lose weight. They know they need to exercise and diet, and they try for a week and then end up dropping the ball.

You are enrolled in college so commit to going to class and getting good grades. Commit to only allowing yourself to go out two nights a week. Commit to only allowing yourself one or two drinks while you’re out. Commit to cutting back smoking.

A lot of the time, its not so much that someone needs to know what to do, they just need to make the concrete decision to do it and stick to it. You just need to set your mind to the improvements you know you can make. Commit to it, like you would your child.
